Wednesday is an American supernatural horror and dark comedy television series inspired by the iconic character Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series quickly became a global phenomenon with Jenna Ortega in the title role, alongside a stellar cast: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmรกn, Isaac Ordonez, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen and Christina Ricci.
Cinematographer Tim Burton directed the first four episodes of season 1 and also served as executive producer, giving the series a distinctly Gothic atmosphere. The story revolves around Wednesday’s life at Nevermore Academy, where she gradually uncovers mysteries surrounding monsters, murders and buried secrets from the past.
Tim Burton was previously offered to direct The Addams Family (1991) but declined, and his stop-motion animation project was also canceled. It was not until 2020 that Netflix officially confirmed his involvement in the series.
