Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Mike Johnson visited Bossier City on Thursday, May 28, to recognize community leaders and public servants during the annual Spirit of Louisiana Awards ceremony.
The event, held at the Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning, honored individuals from across Louisiana’s Fourth Congressional District for their dedication to community service, leadership and public involvement.
Local officials, law enforcement representatives, educators, family members and community supporters gathered for the ceremony, which Johnson described as one of his favorite events each year.
“One of the great joys of being the representative for Louisiana’s Fourth Congressional District is that we have the greatest people in the world,” Johnson said. “So many worthy recipients of awards like this.”
Several leaders from both Bossier and Caddo parishes were honored during the ceremony for their contributions to public service, community outreach and civic leadership.
Among the Bossier Parish honorees were Jill Sessions, Bossier Parish Clerk of Court, and Julian Whittington, Bossier Parish Sheriff. Both were recognized for their continued leadership and service to the parish and surrounding community.
Johnson spoke about the importance of recognizing local leaders as the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of American independence, emphasizing the role family, faith and community values play throughout Louisiana.
“When we represent Louisiana, we’re representing Louisiana’s interests. We’re representing America’s interests,” Johnson said. “At the heart of it all is patriotism, family and community.”
Johnson also praised the people of northwest Louisiana, saying the Spirit of Louisiana Awards reflect the values and dedication found throughout the Fourth Congressional District.
The ceremony concluded with individual recognitions for recipients whose work continues to make a positive impact across their communities.
