The heartbreaking rope-jump tragedy that took the life of 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas in Brazil has now become a serious criminal investigation.

According to reports, three instructors involved in the activity have been arrested and charged in connection with Maria’s death. The incident happened on June 13, 2026, at Ponte do Esqueleto, also known as Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo.
Authorities are now investigating possible failures in the safety-check process, especially how Maria was allegedly launched without being properly connected to the main safety rope.
For her family, this is an unbearable loss. Maria was young, full of life, and had gone there expecting excitement, adventure, and a memory she could take home. Instead, one suspected safety failure turned that moment into a nightmare.
The case has sparked anger and heartbreak online, with many people asking how such an important step could have been missed before the jump. Extreme activities depend on trust, training, and strict safety checks — because there is no room for careless mistakes when a human life is at risk.
Many are now demanding full accountability, stronger supervision, and stricter rules for adventure-sport operators so another family does not have to suffer the same pain.
Maria’s life mattered. Her story must not be forgotten.
