Sixteen years after the global phenomenon “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, Shakira will make her grand return to the world of football with singer Burna Boy.

The Colombian star officially announced her participation in the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday with a new single, “Dai Dai ,” scheduled for release on May 14th and featuring Nigerian singer Burna Boy .

This announcement puts an end to the numerous speculations that arose in recent days after she changed her Instagram profile picture. The singer had been displaying an image from the music video for ” Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) ,” the song that became an anthem of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.  This detail immediately set social media ablaze .

Fans quickly realized it wasn’t just a nostalgic nod. Sixteen years after the global success of her hit, Shakira will make her grand return to the World Cup scene for the 2026 edition, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico starting June 11th.

The 49-year-old artist has been making headlines for several days. She recently made headlines with  a giant free concert on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, in front of more than 2 million spectators according to several media outlets. A spectacular performance that once again confirms her immense international popularity.
